I have been wanting to add a pike to my 220g for a long time but have been leary because of the reputation for being overly aggressive. I would love to own a lent or one of the other large pikes. Are there any pikes that would work with my tankmates?

black aro
psittacus
severums
Geo Altifrons
Polypterus

i think lents would work fine. I dont like the perception that pikes are overly aggressive. they are maybe overly aggressive to other pikes but for the most part my pikes have lived peacefully with many other cichlids. altho i guess u get an uber aggressive one hear and there.

I have a venezuelan (strigata) pike, and while she is a little pushy, she gets along with my florida gar, indo datnoid, and snook just fine.

I agree also. The only pikes I have had a problem with hurting other fish is my Frenata pair and I think the ONLY reason the are so aggressive IS because they are a pair. I think you should be safe with Lents. BTW lents are by far my favorite pike, good choice!

a pike would go great with your stock. my sveni causes no problems. he'll some times chase my jurupari but its nothing serious. gets along fine with my sev, psittacus, indo dat, and bichirs (pretty much same stock as you minus the aro)

Thanks for the info everyone. I have wanted a lent for sometime but have just been afraid of the pike sterotype. I think I'll wait and see if I can't find one at the ACA. If not I'll have to order one when I get back.

Now I'm pumped:headbang2. This is something I've wanted for a long time but wasn't sure I could have!!!!

JD, I ahve a 8" female Johanna, she's been with discus with no problem, eats pellets has a red dorsal. She's yours if you want her. We can work out trade for fry. Ken

Let me do some online looking Ken. I'll let you know something after I go through some pics and see if that will suite what I was looking for.

Thanks for the offer!!

that sounds like a good deal. some of the female johannas ive seen with the red dorsal fin are awesome looking. and the fact that its eating pellets is a huge plus.
