Hey guys I just got a 240 and want to put a spotted gar in there. Other tank mates will include a silver arowana, red terror, albino channel catfish, and maybe a peacock bass. I have looked all over for a spotted gar and can not find any. Anyone know where I can find one?

Trinity river, there are load of them! but it is a bad idea to keep it with silver aro, red terror, and Pbass.

Why would it be a bad idea?
the gar view silver fish as food because they eat shiner minnow in the wild. Red terror and Pbass can be aggressive toward the gar and gar are not good fighter, they will spook and run strait into the glass.

Ahhh ok understandable. I guess I will not be getting a gar then.

although he is right lots of people have successfully kept that mix together without the terror though. pbass aro and gar are very common

Well I have decided to go with a silver aro spotted gar and the pbass. I have read numerous posts from various forums and it seems like a 70-30 split in favor of them being able to be housed together. My LFS has ordered me a 6-7" silver aro and a 6-7" spotted gar. If it does not work I have a pond that I can put the spotted gar in.

if you gonna get the gar form an LFS, it is a Florida gar! I've asked many lfs where the gar come from and always get the:"spotted gar from Florida". If you know any pond or channel that connect to trinity river, or most of pond in North East TX would have native spotted gar in there and there are tons of them.

Even if it is a florida spotted im not to worried about it. I am only paying like $10 for it.
