i've got a 55g with the stock single-tube aga light hood. i've got anibuas, val, moneywort, baby's year and melon sword. it's been set up for a couple months; everything is surviving but growth is fairly slow. i never upgraded the bulb from what it came with because from what i've read a single tube simply wont be enough.

i've been considering upgrading to the ahsupply 2x55 CF kit; it seems like the most economical solution because i can keep the hood. what is the best bulb to run in this situation? will i need a co2 kit to compensate for the added light? are there other options i should be considering? i've read the stickies, just looking for some anecdotal advice.

aquatraders.com has some decent PC lighting. they are cheap but good for freshwater. prob 6,500k bulbs would be best for plant growth as well

NEVER buy from Aquatraders, i received the light was good for around 2 weeks, then one bulb went out died. Alright cool, i bought another bulb then this time the ballast itself died on me. So i had to replace my ballast and now it is running smooth.

Except it gets REALLY REALLY hot enough to crack glass, you need to put extra better fans.

Other than that, go for it.

You can also consider buying used. I have a few compact fluorescents available. See my sig line for the link.
