Thinking about building a plywood tank around 300 gal. I got two quotes on .75 inch glass and about pooped myself on the spot $600.00 to $800.00.
I've read silicone will not stick to acrylic glass.Need a size of 71 inch * 28.25 inch could someone guide me in the right direction to affordable glass.

I need help on this as well I'm going to see if I can come across any large glass at a yard sale.

search craigslist. occassionly you can find glass table tops w proper thickness and dimensions. btw i've seen 28" tall tanks built w 1/2" thick glass. Might be a wee bit cheaper than 3/4

I wouldnt really look for "cheap glass" Just call around to your local custom glass shops and see who will give the best deal. Use them against each other to get a lower price. this place said this price, what are you willing to offer me for it ? then when they go under call back to first place and tell them how low the other store went and just keep going. lol

Do you think a thick glass top dining room table would work for a tank. I have seen a lot of them on the internet for sale from $150 on up.

my buddy made a 360 gal out of a cheap leaking 210 gal he found on craigslist. same viewing area but has 3 sides of glass and is wider and longer. lots of room for his rays and arowanas to turn around

If it is worth it to you to drive to Orlando for a free piece of glass, and if you can transport it, let me know. I have several in the ball park of 2.5x5.

Just a thought, if you have some cash on hand I know of a 9ft long glass tank (360g) that is for sale. It is $1500 with stand, sump, and two pumps.

1/2" glass would be thick enough for you, most 30" tall tanks are only made with 1/2". If you want the extra safety factor then you could go with 5/8" and still save some money.
