I'M Looking to stock my new tank 75x16X36 with come colorfull cichlids. So far I have a juvi midevil and plan on getting a green terror. Perhaps adding some vieja bocourti argentea etc. Any other bright ideas? And yeah I realize the 16 width isn't much but its what I got.

Ellioti, Super Green Texas, Sajica, Rainbow, Elec Yellow, Venustus, OB Peacok, Crimson Tide, EBJD.

To preempt, yes I suggested africans and americans together purposefully. No idea where the 'africans and americans can't coexist together' came from but it's very wrong. Africand and americand live together easily. The only issue is aggression, but that occurs with americans or africans by themselves anyways.

Since you want plenty of nice colors, the above is what I would really recommend so you can have heaps of colors.

It mostly stems from the diffent water parameters that each tend to prefer. New Worlds generally like it soft and slightly acidic, Old Worlds like it hard and alkaline. However, we captive bred fish, it really doesn't matter as much, especially for new worlds outside of the typical discus, apisto, etc.

Festae? You would have to get one that's significantly bigger than the midevil though, cause they grow a lot slower. Also suggest that you add any new fish in groups of at least 3 so that aggression gets spread out.

If your tank is 36" tall, and only 16" wide I wouldn't be getting too many big bruisers if I were you. That seems like a recipe for disaster. That's not very much square footage to share for the fish that you mentioned which get quite large. If you're looking for colorful cichlids, you could try some Discus (they do well in taller tanks) and some rams, or something along those lines. Very colorful and more docile for a community environment.

That is quite the generalization!!! More often then not, that statement is very untrue. All the CA cichlids listed come from fairly similar water chemistry to lake Malawi. Typically pH 7.5-8.5 and water that is as hard, and sometimes condiderably harder then lake malawi.

I see water parameters have been mentioned but don't feel they are near as important as just having consistent water parameters. But I have read that new world and old world cichlids have a difficult time coexisting as often they do not understand each others body language and warning signs. Which often results in a situation that may have been a minor skirmish turning into a bloody war. Again this is something that I have read and am in no way presenting it as fact. Just some food for thought. Does any one else have any thoughts on this.
