I've been reading alot of threads on diffrent aggressive fish hobbiest forums about people buying their first piranha and not being happy that it's not living up to its reputation.
I think its safe to say that around 90% of young or novice piranha keepers buy their fish at a store thinking that when they bring it home it's going to be satan himself in his tank. I'm guilty of doing this over 10 years ago when I got my first RBP...which I might add was 7 babies in a ten gallon tank
. I always wanted to have a great white shark, and having these p's was the only possible substitute. After time, I realized that these fish are NOT what people believe them to be....Terminating the hobby for alot....Intensifying the hobby for a few. I just happen to be part of that few. I learned other traits about the fish and after a while I just didn't want to keep anything else.
With the exception of a few individual fish, piranha's are not glass bangers. Do not purchase them with that being the only reason you want them. Get something else...snakehead, flower-horn ect. Most piranha are skiddish at a young age for a long time and that ends up driving new-to-the-hobby aquarist's crazy.
