I have always been really into the small central american cichlids. I have kept and done a variety of experiment crosses also with convicts and hrps as well.

What I am into now is finding information on convicts thats have been wild caught or originate from different areas/ rivers showing different body traits and looks. I love seeing pictures of different convicts having different colors, finnage and body shapes.

If anyone can hook me up with any good sites or links with interesting articles & pictures that would be great. Any scientific papers or studies would also help too.

What has got me doing this is a recent buy of a super fat convict I just got having a huge barrel torso but having a small head & mouth. At first I thought it was possibly a hybrid, but then considered maybe this fish had some specific con blood line to it.

I feel based on the locations.... convicts in the wild are being collected may have isolated gene clusters which have resulted in certain visual specific outcomes based on isolated populations. Kind of like forced line breeding i guess.... or the way we identify a german shepard to a bulldog, there both different but still dogs at the end of the day.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might help stimulate my bizarre love for convicts!!!

GO CONVICTS

Hey Duanes & Dogofwar. Thanks so mush for the links! This is the kinda stuff I have been trying to hunt down on the web as of late! I have been collection photos and reading pages on the web finding as much as I can about the convict cichlid. Any new interesting links I find I will also post onto this thread.

Its pretty weird how content I am with just this species of fish...

Convicts are fun to keep. I've kept a bunch of different types of the years (search my threads for one I posted about a year ago with pics of most). Right now, I've got Rio Choloteca, Rio Panama, Grenada Nicaragua, Rio Cabayo, and Lake Coatepeque strains in the fish room. All have their unique characteristics.
