Our pleco is around 10 years old. He has been in a 65 gallon tank this whole time and he has definitely outgrown it. We went to an aquarium store last year and asked for advice, showed a video of our tank and they said the setup seemed fine. But I want to give him a better life with something bigger but everything I’m reading says he needs 150 gallon tank minimum or a pond. This is out of my scope. Any advice for how to give him a good quality of life with my beginner skills? Thanks in advance and I will also scour the previous threads

Welcome aboard
Ten years is quite an accomplishment imo. I will say keep doing what you're doing maybe just do larger water changes if the pleco is still growing. If it has room to move comfortably in the aquarium that's fine.

Just reread your post about has outgrown the 65 gallon. If you don't want to get a larger aquarium and not necessarily a pond you could place it for sale or donate to a lfs.

Thank you! He is like 12-14 inches. Everytime I look at the tank I feel terrible for him. But he has been so tough! We also have feeder goldfish in there and they are three years old so we are doing something right. I am willing to do 120 gallons. Will that give him a good life? If not I may look into rehoming. Thank you for the response! We got the pleco when he was 6 inches from a family member when he went into a nursing home. He would have been left to die otherwise 💔

Update: we found a local professional who is helping us get a bigger tank and will set it up for us. Super excited
