I am going to be setting up my 150 gallon this weekend. I'm doing a Cichlid community; GT, Convicts, Texas, Jack Dempsey and some Silver Dollars...

I would like a natural looking tank, but it does not have to be a full on true to life biotope. I saw a tank that looked real nice that used all stacked dark colored grey/green river and layered rock, no plants with jet black Onyx gravel, but then I see tanks like Diesels and am swayed that way.

If anyone is particularly proud of their setup or have seen one that they like, would you be so kind as to share them with me?

I need some ideas.. especially for a tank the size of the one I am setting up. 5'x2'x2'

THANKS!!

MJ

Here is one I am really liking...

Still open to more.

That one looks great. It seems like you already know what you want you just have to do it. Setting up a tank is like art you can not force it just put stuff in if it doesn't look good where it is move it ect......

Good luck and remember have fun :)

I love this one, but getting the root drift wood and a gang of that kind of rock may be my limiting factor.

I totally agree.. setting up a tank is like art. If I can get anywhere close to what that looks like, I would be a happy man.

Have you looked into those DIY backgrounds? I think, if done well, they look awesome, and are really inexpensive. I also like the look of driftwood logs. Ebay is a pretty good place to get driftwood.

I have looked into the DIY. I may do that later on.

Just go to a local fast moving creek or river and fish out a whole bunch of driftwood then when you get back arrange it and throw away the stuff that doesn't really fit. It's alot cheaper then buying wood and you know what your getting

Fast moving creek? Whats that? LOL.. Just kiddin'. I was thinking about doing that but Los Angeles dont have many of those. I would go rock hunting at a place I mountain bike at, but I never really looked for driftwood.

Also any rocks in the area of a creek or river are great to use plus free. I got my from a river near by and then took them to a car wash to rinse them off, my convicts, oscar, etc. love them rocks.

You might try Azusa canyon, they have a nice stream going through there. I was gonna try to get some driftwood from there but just didnt feel like driving up there and bought some nice stuff from Wes @ rare fish in West Covina.

Be careful though cause after the rains we had I'm sure it's alot more like a river then stream, and I'd hate to see you on the news being rescued.
