I'm running two all male tanks now of large CA cichlids & I love both setups, but I've gotten the bug to spawn something. I'm hoping yall can give me some direction.

Spare tanks - 30 gal & 55 gal. I'd prefer it to fit in the 30, but will set up the 55 if the species really does it for me.

Water - pH is 7.6 and really don't want to mess w/ raising/lowering it

Requirements of fish - colorful, able to fit in 30 or 55 for life, somewhat uncommon.

Mainly I've kept SA & CA cichlids & saltwater back in the day. I've been thinking about killies or Africans(which I've never kept). I've been checking out West Africans on Aquabid and I like the colors. I would also consider any lesser known characin or livebearer.

The best fish to breed is something that has demand and you'll be able to sell. While breeding convicts and kribensis may look fun. Unloading the fry is PITA! Go for something rarer that isn't everywhere and you'll have a chance to sell them. The first thing that popped into my mind was L# catfish. You've got the room to breed them and grow then out. However you'd have to change your water parameters pretty drastically.

30, c.cuatepeque, t.maculapinis, A.rytisma,c.bartoni,n. salvini (not that rare, but still a very stunning fish),a.altoflavus,c.nanulotus, c.myrnae, t.seiboldi, a.spinosissimus.
55,H.mineckleyi, H. steidenchardi, a. bussingi, a.lyonsi, p. loiseli, h. leibradense, p. bleekeri(aparently do fine with turtles, at least mine does),t. tuba, a.centarchus.

All great fish, all colorful, and all(except for n salvini) extremely rare. A few are even exstinct in the wild.

Thanks for the suggestions, unloading fry isn't that much of a problem. If I can't sell them locally or to my LFS, I can always feed them to my Trimac, but I did want to breed something that is a little uncommon. If there is interest in the fry, I wouldn't mind trying my hand at shipping. I saw some West African cichlids on Aquabid that I liked - look just like kribs but have different coloration and I'm leaning that way.

L#s seem to be expensive & I could probably turn around the fry, but I just find them really boring - hiding all the time...
