I'm thinking about replacing my south african cichlids in my 55 gallon tank. I want to do something different and get some plants growing. My current fish just destroy any plant I put in.

I was thinking about a green terror, do they cause damage to plants?

Or possibly some clown loaches but they would out grow my tank too quickly.

Any ideas?

I think it depends on the fish, but alot of times cichlids will mess up ur plants. U could give it a try though I guess cuz some of them will actually leave the plants alone.

Clown loachs are very slow grows so as long as you don't buy them big they can live in a 55 for quit some time. When they do get bigger though they will wreck havoc on plants.

My Gt kicks my plants asses!! He hates them in the ground. Dosent really mind them floating but somtimes he still fights them.

As far as cichlids go there are only 3 that I know of that just wont bother your plants. Checkerboard's, angels, and discus. GT's are pretty destructive to plants as far as I know, and clown loaches will be once they are bigger but they grow very very slow. Thats why the vast majority of planted tanks house angels, discus and/or a school of tetras.
