I have really been wanting to get a texas, i love there color...however how big do they get, do they mate pretty easy, eatting, aggrestion...pics if you have any would be great

Thanks GooDyBoy

They usually grow about 12" long, they do breed pretty readily, and most texas are very aggressive and a lot of times like to claim almost the whole tank as theirs, although there are some exceptions but all mine were total b*tches. They arent very picky eaters, you could feed them earthworms, pellets, various other clean live foods, frozen foods like krill, you might be able to get them to eat peas and they also love feeze dried foods. I would suggest you house them in a 75 minimum or say like a 100 for a pair.

Texas cichlids and their cousins, carpintis, are both omnivores. So a varied diet will be best. If it's green and a plant, they will probably eat it. They aren't overly picky. Male texas can hit up to 12" (give or take). They aren't as aggressive as the big bruisers but will tend to be bullies with tankmates. You can have a pair in a 75gal. Same for the slightly smaller growing carpintis.

I had a 2 inch maybe 3 inch texas in a 75 with a jack dempsey, nicaraguense, and severums all of which were twice his size and he still terrorized them

he was a complete butthole

I would keep them with like red devils or jags because mine was so crazy aggressive it was frustrating

never had problems feeding him though, and he was extremely hardy and beautiful, but i just couldn't have him killing all my other fish.

I just need to find one i havnt seen any @ any pet stores its getting frusterating!
