So I've had an opportunity to get an Asian Arowana at an insanely low price, and obviously I want it.

My only issue is I have a red tail giant gourami, green terror, three severums, and three vieja. I'm not concerned about my bichirs, eel, or catfish as they're all uninterested with upper level swimmers. Tank size isn't an issue as I'll either upgrade my tank or bring any fish that outgrows my tank to my work, which has massive tropical tank and ponds. The fish is approximately 9", my gourami is 14" and cichlids are ballpark range from 6"-8".

Thus far the severums keep the cichlids in line and the gourami keeps everyone intimidated without being aggressive. I know the green terror is definitely greatest risk, but if he acts up I'll remove him no problem.

Size and pics of your setup?
Filtration system as well
Sounds awesome
7 foot 210 gallons for now, but ideally an upgrade within the next 12 months or as mentioned before rehoming to my work and continuing care there.

That's my most recent picture, I sold my turtle to a friend with a 400 gallon so that's no longer an issue.

Filtration I have a Marineland Magnum Polishing Canister (filled with Matrix and one of the better Eheim biomedia), a two tier sponge filter rated for 1,000 gallons on a Maxi-Jet 1200, and two 500gph internal filters by RC Electric in my tank. Then in my sump I have a massive chunk of sponge used to block sound that's about 24"x24"x4", then enough various biomedia, ranging from denitrate and matrix to assorted sponge and ceramics, to fill a 20 gallon easily with a Maxi-Jet 600 circulating in the sump.

Man that's nice!...I'm thinking with that setup and stock you'll be fine so long as everyone is well fed...I have a terror with my Jardini currently I'm going to have to remove her soon as my Jardini punishes the terror every chance it gets!

Beautiful setup fishdat fishdat ,

We have and have had our Asians with the same cichlids you have with no problems to the Arowanas in fact with my son's RTG.. we had to remove all the cichlids because the arowana is a 'little' monster and bullied the hell out of them. Even the Viejas that were about 14cm didn't stand a chance but Snoopy is a terror
The Chilli and Super red are with the cichlids and no problem
Only one I have never owned is the Giant gourami
This being said, it depends how big the arowana is at the moment, if she is very small you will have to keep an eye that no one bullies her but being a top swimmer I think it should be ok

Aro obvs taking priority once it's in so if there's any doubt just take out the terror or if it was me just keep the aro.

Cool looking tank // A+

I have no personal experience with Asian Arowana (as they're illegal where I live), but I think the arowana should be fine depending on how big the arowana is when you put him in. Just monitor their interactions very carefully

That was where I was leaning as well, thanks.

Thanks very much! The arowana will be the second biggest top swimmer, so my plan is to remove some cichlids and leave them out till I add the arowana, then reintroduce them at the same time to overwhelm the gourami.

If I had the space, I'd just setup another tank for the arowana, but unfortunately not. Thanks!

That's basically the plan.
