I want to buy a new water pump for my 300g I currently have a little giant but it is a bit noisy. Id prefer to keep it inline if I can so I don't have to modify my sump What does everybody recommend? I was looking at Mag drives.

Pentair "quiet one" series...
I bought the 4000; 1017gph 1" in/outlets, ultra quiet and it doesn't have the leaking problems that the Magdrive danners I have used had.Not to mention that the impeller housing is screwed on so maintenence of the impeller will eventually cause the screws to strip out the plastic housing. The Quiet1 4000 has a twist lock that was made to screw the front of the impeller housing on and off, much wiser for maintenance.
The 4000 is 56 bux at http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=9849&N=2004+113041 right now...

yup.. mag drive did have a pin hole leak on my mag 18 but for some odd reason.. it just disapeared after a day of running. maybe it closed by itself?:nilly: i am satisfied with my mag drive, i must try some other pumps though.:)

I just ordered a mag 18 my little giant just thew a bearing or something and is screaming so for the price I wen twith the Mag I wasn't planning on buying one this soon but I guess thats the wayt it goes

if i was gonna buy a new pump i would go with a mag drive or a quiet one pump both are very good...
