Hello everyone. I would first like to thank you all for all of the great information I have received from this forum since I discovered it a few months ago.

I am buying a new house and will finally after many years have the space to set up some tanks and ponds for some rays. My long term intentions is to try my hands at breeding and would like to set up a pond to breed Hystrix in as a starter and hopefully get some Leo's down the road a bit.

I am looking for advice on the best construction methods. Would a pond liner be okay or am I better off tracking down a large aquaculture container? I would prefer that the pond not be made from concrete or other such non-removable materials if possible but if needed I can certainly go that route.

Thanks for any and all input!

Rich

Hi there, Not much of a pond expert, or ray expert either, and im sure someone on here will have an answer for you (Of Some Value) But just by way of information, there is a nice site called Pond Boss, that has lots of good info on ponds in general, and a nice forum with lots of pond people obviously. Not to detract from this fabulous Forum, just that a lot of info is better to choose from i think. As for the Ray info i think you will find tons of guys right here that can answer almost any question you have accurately.

IMO, best way is just get a 300 gallon rubbermaid tub. Its made of plastic but its really durable. Pretty conveient, get one home and hook up a filter system and you're set to go, no building required. Only problem is, it might not be big enough to satisfy your need lol, its only 5 - 6 feet in diameter.

LOL, i actually got 9 down in my basement with 7 in use ATM. Best way is to get it from Home Depot, they'll order it for you as they wont carry any in stock. You'll have to rent one of those u haul trucks though when you go pick them up. They're only about 2 feet tall so all i do is lift it up vertically and roll it in through the door. No hassle, you just gotta find a buddy or 2 to help you out as it is a bit heavy.

2x4 ladder frame some plywood... take frame line it inside and out with plywood add a liner cap off the liner ( trex works great for this) fill with water and add a filter.... seriously im going to sound like a AZZ but it is all common sence and doesnt require much of anything

NIC's idea is great, unless you have zero carpentry skills. (find a friend and pay with beer)

Stock tanks are easily purchased at Ag stores ie. Farm-n-Fleet, Fleet-Farm, feed stores and some tack shops. Also consider CO-OPs.

I had to disassemble my basement stairs a little to get a 350 gallon round stock tank into it. (had to remove bottom five steps) - FM

not so much carpentry skills home depot will make all the cuts for you... then it just screw them together...
