I currently have two Cortez Rays in my 220 gallon, and am wanting a third ray for the tank.
I'm wanting to get something other than a Cortez, with a different look than the Cortez rays; but also something that's somewhat hardy and won't outgrow my tank, and that will also co-exist well with the two current rays.

Blue Dots are the only things that really come to mind, but I've always heard to stay away from them.

So, any suggestions?

"Hardy" rays usually means Cortez, Round, Yellow - sadly all look very similar. Atlantic stingrays look different (solid color, pointed rostrum). Not very visually stimulating, though.

Teacup rays or reticulata rays(Basically the same ray). They max out at around 12"-15"

Those are freshwater rays. :)

I'm assuming that it's safe to assume that blue dots are a bad idea?

Around here, the only two that you can really find are Cortez, calis, and blue dots; and even those are really hard to come by.

I think I've only seen one or two people do well over my entire time working with rays.
I personally don't even bother with them, if that tells you anything.

Let me talk to a few people and see what I can come up with. We might be able to find something that fits your needs without risking a lot of money.

That would be great.

Otherwise, another Cortez wouldn't hurt. Just trying to change it up a bit is all.

Two rays just looks odd. It feels so unbalanced having an even number like that. I always try to go with 1, 3, or 5 of something like that.
I don't know if that's something that bugs anyone else out there, but it definitely bugs me lol

I was originally going to just have the one ray, but I was somewhat obligated to rescue the second, which is now leading to me wanting a third.
I went into a small pet shop and saw a 6" Cortez in a 14 gallon tank with black gravel on the bottom, so I kinda had to save it.

I will be down at my collector's place in the Keys later today (assuming everything goes well prior to that). I'll let you know what he has in stock.
