I was wondering if anyone had tried putting a black light combined with other lights in their FW aquarium to give the fish a nice brilliant glow?

I have 4 fluorescent bulbs and sorta want to try putting one black tube in there with the 3 other usual ones...

Has anyone tried this? does it looks good?

Will it grow some weird crazy algae?

Will the fish break out in disco?

heh, well thanks for any input before i go blow 25$ on a tube..

The other lights will drown out the blacklight IME... You either have to go all blacklights, or go with actinic colors.

Blacklights are fine to use, i'd think.

I agree with the above, try actinic. I use one actinic and one daylight tube, and I find it really makes the colors pop on heavily spangled fish, like GT's and JD's.

I agree. Blue actinic bulbs really bring out the colors, when you turn off the lights you really notice the difference

If i remember correctly, black lights aren't exactly the best for your eyes in the long run, so if the tank is right next to some where you sit for long periods of time then it may not be the best of ideas...

hmmm... thanks for the input, i think i'll go for the blue actinic.. i thought of those originally too but then $$$$$ difference made me consider blacklights.

i'll post pic when i get it glowing nice.

thx
