So I’m (forever) trying to decide on stocking for my 125 and I’m stuck on what “geos” to get. I like satanoperca types but the ones I’ve looked at get alittle too big for a group in a 125 with my other stock plans (heros notatus and crencichla Regina). Does anyone have a recommendation for a species of smaller satanoperca or geophagus type?

Yet to keep them, they're on my wish list, but I believe mirabilis max @ 8 inches. taeniopareius supposedly reach 6" or so (I've yet to keep them). I'm growing some sveni juvies, was told they'd get 8 inches or so, little bit smaller than winemilleri. There's parnaibae, more like 5-6", I believe. Tapajos red heads, of course, which are easier to find than some of these others.

I’ve had the sp. redhead tapajo and while I enjoyed them, I was wanting to try something different. I really like those mirabilis but they may be hard to find... trying to get everything through my lfs since I have $400 in store credit.

Steindachneri are one of the most beautiful species to me, and they max out at only 6"
Here is one that I kept. I did not have a group of them, just this guy, and he was not particularly aggressive to tankmates, though perhaps a bit more than some geos which are completely passive

I have a group of Geophagus abalios that are very peaceful. They take a while to mature and show off their colors but I have found them to be hardy and a pleasure to keep. They are best kept in groups of at least 6. A group of 8 is better. They love company like the very similar Red Head Tapajos. Both species are bolder and happier with sufficient numbers. They hide a lot when they don't have enough buddies and mine showed stress coloration.

ETA: I expect the abalios to top out at around 6 inches, give or take a little.

neutrino neutrino mirabilis are now on my wish list! I’m going to try and hunt some down in the next few months. Still taking other suggestions in case something changes or falls through though!

I’m in the same boat. Have an empty 125 cycling and am looking into geos for the first time. Thinking of growing out some redheads or some other species along with a severum or 3 . Possibilities of my Oscar joining them eventually....
