Hi. I am looking into buying a pair of flower rays. These will not be my first rays I already have a pair of hystrix. How big do flowers get? At what size are they ready to breed? Can they be kept on pool filter sand? They will be in an indoor pond by christmas time, will this be okay? Can they be kept with other smaller rays in the pond (the hystrix pair). Any additional information would be great. Thanks

They get huge! They are ready to breed more based on maturity than age. No offense but no one in captivity has been able to successfully breed flowers. Pool filter sand not sharp or with silica is fine and they will need a pond and are very docile. Will get along with any other rays.

Ok thank you. Breeding wasn't my main goal, I would rather just keep them for beauty because I think they are the rays with the nicest pattern. What are good deminsions for a pond with 2 flowers and 2 hystrix? Thank you for the quick reply.

I'm sorry that I keep adding more posts but I may have found a better website and every pool on the website is affordable. Please check this website and let me know if you think there is a better one:

Are u talking about the MALE in the front ;)
These Flowers are about 50-55-60cm Diameter and females have been pregnant but the pups were dead-born.
But the male did crossbreed with Motoro.

I have heard about succesfully breed in Taiwan, female is 40cm diameter.
The Flower I have seen in the wild in Venezuela was about 30-40cm and looked really old. Ofcourse friend of mine caught much bigger ones,
but for breeding it is not a MUST that they have to be HUGE.

I would say a min of 8' diameter pond for them.... 2 30" + rays in a 8x2 isn't gonna work for too long... also when small they are very very sensitive...
