looking into get some Birchirs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Senegals are a good Birchir to start with. They are very common now(they even sell them at petsmart, they call them dinosaur eels) and they are the cheapest Birchir $5-10 . They come in regular color (brown, grey,or beige) and Albino. They stay small which would be good for your tank. But make no mistake, they are predators and will happily eat any fish they can fit in their mouth. I've attached some pics of my Senegals for you. Ones an albino and one regular. They are about 6" now about half grown.

Would have to agree with HunterX. I am also new to the bichir family and have started with a senegal and is one of the most hardy fish I own.

If you can afford it, I think Delhezi are some of the nicest looking Polys out there.

I would suggest Ornate because of their beautiful pattern. they are easy to find and a good price usually.

well for that tank i'd go with one of the following: senegal, palmas polli, delhezi, or even though its not a polypterus, a rope fish.

10-12 inches and its really a Polypterus senegalus senegalus-Anne
