Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had an appropriate species of Crenichila I could look into.

I would house it in a 135 Gallon aquarium with Central/South American Cichlids.
Green Terror, Festae, Managuense, and Rose Queen.

Also, where could I purchase Crenicichla? It seems that all of my LFS do not have them.

Pikes are seasonal. You might have to travel to Orange County to get pikes. I know that Tom's Aquarium in Long Beach gets pikes from Sept- Feb. There's also a shop in Gardena, CA (about 15 minutes north of Long Beach) that carries pikes. This place is called Pet N Joy.

Can't help you much with west coast specialty stores unless you are willing to dish out $60-75 in shipping from some places here in Florida. Wetspot in Oregon gets some in from time to time. They only have compressiceps (dwarf) in right now and they would likely be too small for the much larger (though debatably meaner) tankmates.

I have the same issue with my LFSs getting in pikes. It's rare any time of year and when they do get them in, they haven't the slightest clue what species (of the hundreds out there) that they have. Aquabid has them listed a lot in the SA section.

Thanks for providing the locations, I just called Tom's and they said that they may have Pikes in on Monday.

He did say that the Red Pikes he may get in will cost around $300. (Didn't specify which species).

How much will Pike's normally cost?

It's all dependant on species and sizes. Around me when I see them range from 30-120 on the bigger pikes. And $7-20 for the smaller ones. One place had cintas at 5" for 60. Red at $120 at "10-12 and Johanna at $30 for 3-4". Then proteus for $7 and belly crawlers for $20. It all depends on species sir. Another thing I see though is pikes are said to be aggressive and all those fish you have are aggressive. And each one of those cichlids you have should or could have the entire 135 to themselves and I forsee a blood bath in the future

Wow, $300 for a red pike? Maybe he misspoke. I haven't seen a red pike sell for that much in the OC area. Maybe just under $200, never $300.

If $300 is accurate, I would definitely order from Florida. LOL The most expensive pike I have seen was a 12" zebrina for $950. But most pike prices here range from $20-150 depending on species (rarity) and size. A place I commonly keep an eye on has 12-14" Atabapo reds for $125 each.
