I have been fish keeping for most of my life. Having a aquarium in my house is a wonderful thing which I really enjoy. Furthermore, I fell the passion is in my blood. I have many years experience in fresh water as well as salt water fish keeping. I am always looking to learn more.Besides having a tank, I really enjoy configuring the life support systems. I like all the gadgets such as tank controllers, LED lighting, digital test kits, etc. I enjoy plumbing out the system in a specific neat way. The point of me saying all this is - if there is anyone else in the Queens Nassau area that fells the way I do, I am interested in becoming more involved then just having a tank in my home. I frequently go to many pet shops weekly in the Queens,Long Island areas and I feel I can bring a better experience in this fish keeping industry. I feel these stores are not showing how stunning a aquarium can really look like in ones home. Not to knock any of these places, but there is room for something different. If this is my addiction am I so bad ? My family does not mind that I have a tank or two but it would be nice to work in this field. I am looking to get involved in some way shape or form. I can be reached at josephcustomcues@aol.com or right here at MFK.

Get involved with your local clubs, network during LFS trips, keep an eye out for our tristate store tours. MFK guys are very active in the NY/NJ area. Our very own CodOnMyRod CodOnMyRod is actually the keynote speaker at the LI aquarium club this Tuesday. I know a few members are making the trip to support our boy!

Yes - fish clubs are the way to go! Greater City Aquarium Society, NJAS and lots of others. There are also some awesome weekend events in the area. My club, Capital Cichlid Association (CCA) just had "The Big Fish Deal". The Keystone Klash in York, PA is in Sept...and the PVAS Catfish Convention is in Oct (http://catfishcon.com/).

Beware of a fake club on the East Coast that's based in NJ. It's a money-making scheme for the thief who runs it.

I would love to join a club. The one in long island at stony brook is very far from my house and the one in Queens I tried to reach out to multiple times and got no response. I want to find out some details and sent messages to all the contacts I could find on line. It is a whole lot easier if a member brings a non member to break the ice. Anyway, I must say Thank You guys as that was a great idea. Is their anything else out there I may be missing ? I really do appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Stony Brook a long way from Queens? You need to get out more. We have people driving over 200 miles to come to some of our meeting and auctions. And yes, I used to live there.

I sent a message as you advised to the Greater City Aquarium Society. Its been a few days now and no reply. In the past I tried sending messages to all the contacts I found on line and the same, no reply. I don't know what the story is with that organization. I still fell the best way is to have a member bring a guest to break the ice. Well maybe someday---
