Just a heads up for you, but I had a Mag350 and it SUCKED!!!!!!!!!! I feel like you might get the short end of the stick on the deal. Just trying to look out for a fellow MFKer. You have to change the filter like every 4-5 days. Basically you need to filters, 1 to run and the other to change when the one used is dirty. It is a hastle (atleast it was for me, I say stick to the X5 or trade it for a RenaX4 (rena is thinner in Dia. so fits in better places)).

I know the FX5 seems abit much for my 75 the only inhabitants are a pair of JDs. I had a 350 long ago and didn't mind it. I would really like a smaller filter and a UV or something not in any hurry just considering the options.

Any filter over rated from the size tank you have is good. You can never have to much filteration IMO. Dude, I say keep it. You have one of the Top 3 Filters (most say the FX5 is top) and would be a bad move to go with a lower grade filter. I'm just putting myself in your shoes :)

If you realy want a smaller filter, I have a near brand new RenaX3 with ceramic rings, carbon and pads I can trade you. It is about 1.5'high and maybe 8-10" in width. Rated at 150gl max, but I would say 100gl would be easily cycled from it. I sure could use a FX5 on my 150gl:D

I have one XP3 and one Emperor 400. I will give you both filters for the FX5

Got a 400 if I needed one; not interested in HOB as they are kind of noisy they wife likes the tank quiet or else I would trade to make a sump otherwise.

You said your Rena is noisy... that should not be making any sound.
1. have you tried looking at your O-rings? you could have an air leak and causing the motor to make noise?
2. have you tried placing the Rena on a towel or something soft? That might be the noise (from the shaking)
3. If there is a prob call Rena and they will truly attend to your needs. They helped my with my X4 in a 2 week peroid. Awsome customer service!!!!!!!! and they may be able to help you with the noise if it not the above. G/L bro and for the record, KEEP THE FX5!!!! or, with all the respect, Mrs. Craig... my wife is not in the hobby like myself so she probly feels your pain (:D) but that man has an EXCELLENT filter and it is top of the line stuff. Which makes the fish happy, making the man happy:D. Just my 2 cents:D:D:D:D
God bless

:D lol. if you want quiet, the fx5 is really quiet compared to the rena and emperor. overfiltration is always better then underfilter.
look at it this way, overfiltration you don't have to change water as often.

bump still open to offers send pics and model numbers. No HOB's or sumps as if I could use a sump I would stick a 40 brdr or 55 under my stand and use it.
