I have a treid ebjd a couple times with limited success. I have kept two groups one in my 50g L14,L200, L184, panda uaru grow out tank and some in a 10g very small L14 grow out tanks. Both tanks no ammonia, nitrite, low nitrate. Twice a week 40% WC. The same thing keeps on happening to me. They grow great then anywhere from 1.5 inches to 5 inches. They stop eating for a day and then start panting and then normally two days latter they die. They are all in very good body condition. Any thoughts? Anyone have similiar experiences?

Do you use an air pump? Maybe the oxygen level in the water isn't enough for them when they get to that size

This is a common problem with EBJD's - they are prone to internal parasite infections (stringy white poop, bloating, & not eating as indicators). Various people try different things to help prevent this. It seems some lines of EBJD are less prone to this. Some guys use UV filters, others feed peas once a week, others do regular metro treatments, others use Epsom salt in the tank or feed, and others garlic in the feed. I have also struggled with the same issues and tried many things, but have not found the silver bullet to keeping these fish healthy long term.

so far he is still hanging in there. I did a levamisole treatment a week ago. Currently the tank is being treated with metro and I am doing daily enrofloxacin baths. I haven't been able to see his stool and he is not bloated, but definitely not eating. time will tell

I never would have thought that... I thought you would have been able to keep some long term. So what is the life expectancy on them?

Good luck with your ebjd... Mine is about 2.5" and so far so good. I guess this is one thing I can look forward to fighting... But hopefully not.
