I have some 3 week old tramitichromis sp "intermedius" and 5 week old labeotropheus traverse (sp) "mpanga red" fry that Ive been loosing a couple every day. They are both in their parents tank inside breeder nets. Nitrate is just over 20, nitrite 0, ammonia 0. I dont get it. Im feeding them crushed brine shrimp and crushed spirulina flake. could this be an issue with the breeder nets? I had the mpangas in a breeder "box", a floating plastic box with flow through, and never lost a fish. I move them in here and loose 3. I dont get it.

They are big enough to be eating normal foods. both come from maternal mouthbrooders who held full term. anyone else?

Ive seen those breeder nets get algae growth on the side which then restricts water flow through them. Maybe that could be the cause. Id move them to another tank.

I have one of those boxes. they are really hard to feed with and are suspended on air bubbles they trap in chambers on the sides. everyonce in a while they sink though, and that causes tons of problems, like parents eating fry. a fry tank is probably my best bet.

I think the breeder box would work very well if it was some how fixed to the tank wether its suction cups or even a bent coat hanger. Just my opinion.

That should be it. Same experience on my end!
