having a huge problem!! I've got a bad case of ick in one of my tanks so i added aquarium salt Copper Sulfate and raised the temp in the tank to 88. The ick is only affecting the loaches badly but some of the other fish have it too. The other fish in the tank seem to be getting a little better but the loaches are getting worse. I have lost 3 loaches of the 5 in the tank already... any suggestions on how to remedy this?

Get that copper stuff out of there ASAP through a huge water change (match temps). Then dose the salt at 1-2 TBS/5 gal water. Everyone's opinion varies on the salt amount, I use 2 TBS/5 gal but a lot of others use 1 TBS/5 gal. And keep the heat up to 88 degrees. It may already be too late, I sure hope not. I've never lost one single new quarrantined Loach using salt and heat for ich.

Just Aquarium Salt. and raise temp.........loaches do not have scales..they cannot take those chemicals..... :( Listen to Twisted Penquin.. i hope it is not too late too... and never add a fish with out quarenteen... most always this is the reason for the dreaded ICK!

Copper sulfate is a heavy metal. It can affect scaleless fish rather badly and worse than most fish.

They have all made the trip to the toilet, I was suprised that they went down hill so fast. I added the copper almost a week ago and they didn't show any ominous signs until today. Lesson Learned!

:-( I hate to hear of lost Loaches, I'm sorry. Not sure how copper kills, but if it causes some sort of organ failure then that's a slow killer and would explain them hanging in there for a week.

I agree with Lupe, meds should be a last resort, and copper is a loach killer.

Sorry dude, did the other fish make it?
