Losing my mind

Why do some fish flash(scratch) and others do not? With no sign of sickness, is it marking territory? Too small of aquarium? Trouble with tank mates?

Could be gill flukes? Net the fish that are flashing, check their gills, see if they're good?

It's a pink tail trigger. Gills are too small to see inside

Maybe some fish are more sensitive to the water conditions.I have fish that scratch some time but when water quality is maintained they usually stop.

True. It maybe torture on a short scale, but I'm the long run can be beneficial. Any thoughts on freshwater dips?
