Hey guys seems like I have the worse luck with clown loaches. Just lost my final 2... Don't know why. I did my weekly 70% WC as usual. Temp was matched, prime used, and all my other fish are fine. The two clown loaches were also perfectly fine this morning. They ate a ton but right now I found them both dead. No damages at all two the clown loaches either. Do you guys have a clue what happened to them?

70pct water change plus killing some of your benefical bacteria very well could be the problem. I don't care if you did not rinse anything under tap water I still think with that amount of water change some of the bacteria dies.

My guess would be that something was in the new water added to the tank. Loaches are more sensitive than other fish with larger scales. You never know what is in municipal water, or how much extra chemicals were added to it during treatment. Doing a 70% water change should have little effect on your biological filtration.

I've had Clown loaches mysteriously die too. When PetSmart had them on sale for $4.99 I bought 15 of them. Then every other day 1-2 would just die. Sometimes it go a week but find one dead until I got down to 2. The final 2 stayed alive for 4-5 months and grew bigger. Then recently I was in PetSmart and saw them on sale again and just bought 2 more. Then about week later of those original 2 one comes up dead. No signs of any fighting just like all the others, just dead. In this tank many other small peaceful fish that could have done anything to them. I keep a lot of fish, big fish rare fish, fish that are known to be touchy. Never had them just die like these loaches without any signs of stress or damage. I've kept Clown Loaches in the past never had any problems with them like these PetSmart ones. Just weird..
