I don't normally do these kind of posts. When I lose a fish, I just take it in stide, learn from it and move on but this is different because these are my favorites.

I had 10, now down to 9. I had them in a 150 a year ago then put them in the 500 when I first set it up. I had a stand issue with the 500 so they went back in the 150. They never really took to being back in the 150 after spend time in the 500. The 4 months they were in the 150 while the stand of the 500 was fixed, they were very stressed. Well the 500 has been up in running for over a month and today it was time to reintroduce them to the 500. I netted them as carefully as I could and put them in a 5 gallon bucket. I noticed almost instantly that there was slime coat floating in the water. I knew it wasn't going to be good. I set up a drip line to the bucket from the 500 to acclimate them to the new tank. After checking on them several times, I noticed one was looking very poor. Over time he tired to pull out but it was no luck.

Good news is the rest of the loaches are doing great in the 500 and have been pretty active this afternoon. The one that I lost was a solid 4 inches, just its body. It was just under 5 inches if you include the tail. I didn't bother taking a picture.

Now it's time to hunt down some large loaches and grow my pack to 15, 9 just doesn't seem to cut it.

how big are they, just got my first ones. there still tiny. but oddballs

I'm a big fan of drip acclimation but since it's a long gradual process, the fish are often in the buckets for quite some time. When it's not summer I found I need to put a heater in the bucket as. An airstone is a good idea too. I got lazy once and when I checked on my bucket of loaches they were all panting and rather lifeless until I added air.
