this morning after waking up and going to check on my tanks i noticed that one of my peacock bass 3" or so in length was very lethargic, he would swim and stay in the filters current but his breathing was heavier and when he would leave the current he would bump into things. he has been in the tank for 2 weeks now and was very very shy on eating. the other peacock bass is a pig however. after comming home from work tonight i found him dead on the bottom of the tank. i removed him right away and also noticed right away that his gills are Very green!! what the heck is this? i inspected my other fish and they all look to be clean. i perform 25% water changes once a week and i have huge overkill on filtration and airation. 80 gal tank, Fluval 404 and maxijet 1200 powerhead hooked to a ornament filter inside the tank. 2 30gal rated air pumps.

What is the water temp and the water parameters? How many bass are in the tank and what are the tank mates? How much decorè do you have in the tank?

Sorry that sucks. I have 4 new little guys myself for the first time. I wake up every morning nervous about them and my tank is all set its just scary loosing such a beautiful creature. Keep us updated on what happened so we or myself knows what to look out for. Again sorry for your loss...

Sorry to hear that. Growing out 3 of these guys myself. Will be interested to see what other's say about potential causes. I have the same temp in my tank as well.

sorry i forgot to mention tank mates.
1 jaguar cichlid but hes quite smaller then the bass and does not seem to mess with them yet.
1 figure 8 puffer (will be removed before hes eaten LOL)
theres a flowerhorn that was introduced but he was a little devil from the start so hes quarantined in a smaller tank inside the larger one until my new 40 gal is ready for him. its cycling right now.

i inspected the tank and all fish seem to be doing great. pretty bummed out. so no one knows what green gills are associated with if temp and PH are good?

more filtration? i have almost 700 gal an hour for an 80 gal tank. i know people with much bigger tanks and dirtier fish that dont require that much filtration.
ill up the water change to 40-50% just to be sure though.
