its a secret
well just thought i would tell my story.

well i had 4 rbp in a 75g, all was good for the first like year, than it turned out they like to pick on the one piranha with only one eye, most of the time it wasnt too bad and i watch closely.

my most current problems is when i realized that i had 3 males and 1 female.
the one female proceeded to breed with 2 of the males, well the 2 males singled out the one eyed piranha, they beat him up pretty good so i lowered the temp from 78 to 74. the breeding slowed for about a week, than started back up, so i lowered it again down to 71.

it has been pretty calm for the past 2 weeks untill like monday, i noticed that one eye had 1/2 his tail gone, and he was hiding at the top, not too big of deal, but i cam home from work today to see they had killed him and there was only about 2/3 of him left...

any ways to stop them from trying to breed?
thanks
Rob

Maybe you should have removed him the 1st time you noticed they were picking on him. I don't understand why people will just leave a fish in a tank when they are getting attacked. If your dog was getting mauled by another dog, would you just sit back and hope for the best?

I would pick your favorite male and take the other one in for trade in.

Possibly because they don't have another 75 kicking around for the one who won't defend himself.

Besides, not all LFS's take trade ins. Mine has stopped doing it, because one of the ignorant hicks around here traded in sick fish.

I'm sorry about your loss RXracer, but you should've tried to do something other than turning the temp down on them. And them breeding is a great thing, and it means you're taking good care of them, aside from this small lapse in judgement.

But don't worry, everybody has one of those sooner or later.

if Male #1 doesn't bother Male #2, or vise versa, just leave them be, since there's no guarentee if you trade one in, that you won't end up with another male, and you're just back to square one.

thats what i would have done! or split the tank up. i don'y like it when fish fight

Sorry for the loss. I've got 4 in a 75 right now with no problems (knock on wood). How large were they when they started breeding? What are you doing with the eggs?

im lettign the plecos eat the eggs, i dont want anything to do with those and babies. dont know how big they were when they started breeding. but they were from 7" to 10" now.
