I just found my female hybrid motoro dead on the bottom of my tank this morning. Did my weekly water change Saturday, I noticed a few minor wounds that day. I assume the larger female orbignyi was biting at her some, she is the dominant in the tank. Motoro had bite marks on both eyes and a little on tip of tail. Found this morning semi buried in sand and perfectly flat, just dead. I am doing another water change now to remove any issues caused by death. Don't really know how long she was there, last checked on her yesterday morning when I fed everyone. No major changes to system and no water quality issues. All other tanks and fish fine, not sure what went wrong.

It really sucks because it was one of the first two pups I produced, and I really wanted to see what she would grow up into. Had her for about a year now, about 8" disk diameter when she died. Here is the last pic I took of her.

That sucks man, sounds like the Orb is a little bit of a bully

Leo/pearl x motoro. The other tank mates are two female orbignyi, about 10" and 11", and the brother of the deceased hybrid who is about 8" as well.

Darn really sad loss.

Did you verify good water params of the new water being used for the water change?

I've had times where tap water was full of all sorts of stuff that kill lifeforms in an instance.

Didnt test source water before adding to system. Have three tanks, one with african cichlid fry who receive 80% changes and they are fine. Had to be stress from dominant orb. Still really upset about it. Nothing I can do now I guess, just frustrating.

It sucks when you lose one but it's worse when you can't figure out why. I would rather have one jump from the tank or something else that I can point at-slap myself in the forehead-and then fix. But not knowing why is the worse. Sorry about that.
