a LFS has had 5 motoro's in, around 5-6 inch, they've had them in quarantine for almost 3 weeks now, and have lost 2, i asked to view the other 3 and watched them feed etc, greedy buggers! they arent shy of their food at all, but im just a little worried with the other 2 dieing, they are in quarantine for another week now as the 1st week they didnt eat, this way if i get one will it will have been feeding for 3 weeks total, the lfs said they went sure what the other 2 died of, i couldnt see any parasites on the 3 that were left, if all is well next week should i get one? or leave them alone?

If they're eating, 3 weeks is a pretty decent sample size. If you go somewhere else, you're not likely going to know whether they also had some losses - and very few LFSs are willing to quarantine any fish for anything like 3 weeks.

I'd probably pay my money and take my changes..

Motoros are very hardy so I'd be a little concerned of what killed the others. I'm guessing they are wild caught? Can you find any captive bred rays locally?

Has the pet shop treated them with anything (like Prazipro) or just started feeding them? If they are eating for three weeks that is a good indication they have settled in. The concern would be if they become stressed for some reason and they have not been treated, they may succumb to the parasite or bacteria that is still present (presuming that is what the other 2 rays died from). Quarantining them with treatment is what I would recommend (especially if they are wild caught). I've heard of too may ray keepers bringing in new rays, not treating them and then having rays die later for what seems for no apparent reason.

I would buy the rays if they are still eating well. Just ask if he has treated them. If not, treat them when you get them.
