I have no idea what happened. My jewels have been fine for the past month. Eagerly accepting food twice a day. Done a couple regular w/c's. They even spawned twice! The fry from both batches are fine. It's a standard 29g, with an AC50 for filtration. Two days ago, before I did the last w/c, I noticed both fish breathing heavily. I'm thinking ammo spike, but it's strange how it just seemed to happen all of a sudden. They lost coloration as well. Anyway, one died last night, the other this morning. Their fry from both batches are swimming around as usual. I need to test the water params, I just haven't got to it yet. This sucks!

so the fry lived but the parents died very strange

Yeah, I can't figure it out. The fry are actually doing very well now. There are about ten-twelve of them in the tank, and they're growing fast. I don't know why the parents died. It happened so suddenly. I guess that's why I was thinking NH3 spike.

Kinda sounds like a spike. I don't know why they'd both drop dead like that otherwise.

Only 12 fry? That's a really small fry batch. Were there more originally? Too bad you're not local, I could hook you up with another pair.

Originally, there were many more fry. I have seven left, and they're growing fast and seem to be very healthy. I changed filtration to an AC70. That has helped a lot. I'm sure it was probably a spike as you suggested.
