He was my first ray and I had him for about 4 months. I had put a LOT of effort into getting him to eat initially, some of you on here are to thank for your assistance in that. He started putting on weight very well and was doing fantastic. About a week after the incident with the filter media, the others started acting so much better and he went from being fine to very bad. I'd almost compare how he acted to having a stroke. Regardless, he continued to worsen and today was the end. The two hystrix are doing incredibly well and I hope they continue to do so. RIP Flappy :(

Sorry to hear chase. I lost a few awhile back that werent in the best shape when they arrived so i know how you feel. I'll have some more pups soon if you are looking.

Very sorry to hear that... I have had my first ray now for around 4 months also... and pray things continue to go smoothly. If I may ask, was there a thread with more information on what happened? I want to learn as much as I can to prevent harming my own ray.

Once again, sorry for your loss..

yeah, also curious, are rays prone to be more sensitive to certain parameters?

You can search my threads, I had posted about some filter media I bought in bulk that had an adhesive on it..though it wasnt' supposed to. I now don't believe that it was the cause of the problem, not by itself anyway. He was not acting odd at all when I had that material in the tank whereas my male hystrix got really sick. As soon as I did massive water changes the hystrix was fine. The retic was fine as well, and ate well for another week. Then it was like someone flipped a lightswitch. He started doing all kinds of things that seemed to be neurological and stopped eating. The two things may not be related, I'll never know. The other smaller ray that was in the tank never showed any signs of distress with the bad water and as I said, the male hystrix did a complete recovery as soon as I changed the water. Both of them are doing very well now, eating like pigs and acting fine.
