So i recently got a 150gal tank with a built in corner overflow. It is my first tank with a built in overflow whereas before on my other tanks I used the overflow box that hangs over the back. After setting up everything and getting the tank started I noticed to my dismay that the overflow emits a loud gurgling sound as the water falls through the drain. Seeing as how this tank is in the bedroom it makes it quite difficult for me to sleep. Luckily my wife is partially deaf and can just sleep right through it or else me and the tank would be kicked out already haha.

What suggestions do you guys have to make the tank quieter? What measures could I take to lessen the noise?

The tank is a 150 gal 5'x2' and I am using a Rio 3100 pump. The overflow box is filled 3/4 with Bio balls.

durso standpipes, raise the standpipe so its level with entrance of the overflow, you can also add a ball valve on the pipe leading to the sump and partially close it so the pipe is constantly filled with water eliminating any air which makes the noise.

Just wanna pop my head in and say I've got the same issue and I suspect these responses will immensely improve my quality of life once I get around to implementing them.

Heartfelt thanks!

OK I like that and it looks simple enough to make on myself. Any other suggestions for a quick fix to get me through the night?
