loud sump issue

OK, so I just setup a sump with a HOB overflow. This thing is LOUD

The most noise is coming from the overflow.

Any thoughts?

The sound is coming from the drain part of the overflow. It seems like the tank fills and drains instead of just a continuous drain. Did that make since?

Durso's won't work with a HOB overflow. I'm not sure what you can do to quiet down a HOB overflow.

Then I guess I'm wrong.. but how on earth did you fit a durso on a small HOB overflow?

although i have never done it, i have seen durso's in hob overflows work very effectively.

I have a durso in my CPR style overflow, but I don't know how you'd fit one in a HOB overflow that has "U" shaped tubes. For the latter I use ball valves and choke 'em down a bit

Filling and draining is a siphon trying to establish. You need to find a way to vent the air (eg the Durso noted above). You can also have a vent in the sump area.

Most likely, though, your pump is probably too strong for your drains. Please indicate how many drains you have and their diameters. Also, identify the pumps specs.

mine has a 1" bulkhead with a 1" piece of pvc stuck in it.. about 2" up there are 2 3/4" elbows trimed down and siliconed in place (this was a pain in the butt and took several tries)
the main pipe extends above the tank so i can grab it .. its capped with painters tape with a small hole poked in it so keep the syphon broken

ive added a second U pipe from the tank to the overflow.. so now theres the original 1" and a second 1.5" U as well...

the box is rated for 800gph (eshopps pf800).... i have no idea how you could get this thing to flow that much... with no mods straight out of the box the max i could get it to flow was maybe 300gph IF that much
