Even in my collection of murderers and thugs, the need to reproduce prevails, unfortunately it looks like it is going to be a very undesirable couple, a Midas/Red Devil hybrid. Couldn’t have picked two worse fish to pair off. Dont worry though, these guys are feeders at best, they aren’t leaving the basement if they ever come to fruition.

My xanthic sagittae ( which until yesterday thought was male) just laid eggs with my gold barred midas.

They are pretty peaceful together at this point-

I am tempted to keep and grow out a dozen for myself and keep the most interesting but they will not be leaving my tanks

Con Air.....so,which one would be Cyrus the Virus?

Yeah he was, he’s always good. Still no eggs yet, I’m wondering when they will finally lay them. Looking at the fish, and I think you can tell in the video, she seems to have her ovipositor ready to go, just holding on for some reason. It would be the first batch for any fish in this stock so maybe she just hasn’t figured it out yet. Ironically, during the last two days, I managed to get a 3-4 inch Pbass in the tank right beside them to take dry food. I’ll have to feed the fry to my other grow out tank now instead. Getting bass off live has always driven me nuts.

Parents look great, I'd be tempted to keep one of the hybrids to just to see what they look like.

Though I don't know what the difference between a Midas and a Red Devil is, and this point I'm afraid to ask.

You probably should be afraid, but I’ll join you, aside from slight shape differences, you’d be hard pressed to tell some apart. Other than trusting the people I buy them from, I’m no scientist. That’s what makes this mix all the worse, they would look similar either way.
