Greetings all, recently i noticed that my fx5 has had extremely low amount of water flow coming out of the hose. it sounds perfectly normal and i doubt any air has gone in. this happened a couple weeks back and i assumed that maybe cleaning out the filter would help and it seemed to work up until now. the flows gone back to its low rate and i wondering if its time i change the impeller and motor since its been quite a while since i’ve last done that. problem being that i cant really find spare parts for the discontinued fluval fx5, and i dont know if fx6 parts work on my old fx5. please let me know

Fluvalaquatics.com has parts for fx5. I believe the motor and impeller are the same on fx5 and fx6. Best of luck.

before i drop a hundred on a new impeller, motor and maintenance kit could it be a power/ wattage issue? both my fx5 and fx4 along with all my lights are connected to the same port but they’ve been going well for years.

Doesn't sound like the power is the issue. Could always swap outlets to test. Not sure where your located but you could check out Craigslist and Facebook market place for a used FX to part out.

Did you clean out the actual impeller? This sounds similar to what happened on an fx4 on one of my tanks and after cleaning the actual impeller it was fixed.

i didn’t actually clean the impeller, i’ll try that

the problem is that now even my fx4 has low water out out and i highly doubt that the fx4 has any issues with impeller cleaning wise because it is extremely new and has been working well ever since i got it. i just u plugged everything in my aquarium and tried only the filters and then one by one and i find that both filters seem to work at maximum output or what they atleast should be pumping at for the first few seconds before dropping back clean to the extremely slow gph. any thoughts?

i feel that if it is still able to output this speed of water it’s probably something wrong with the mechanisms or power though plugging in only one yields no different result

i also realize it could be because of sand, i cleaned out the sand from the filter but i haven’t checked the hosing itself

i’ve narrowed down the problem for my fx5 and it seems to be that it’s not taking in water as fast as it’s outputting it, when i turn off the out hose and then back on it jets out all the water out at a normal flow before returning to the slow flow. any thoughts on how this could’ve happened or a fix?
