Im about to buy a rimless 48x24x16h from Deep Blue. They have a edge model thats reef ready and has low iron glass. And they have a plant model that is not reef ready and does not have low iron glass. The difference between the 2 is $100.

I am not building a planted tank. Nor am i building a reef. Just want a clean minimalist aquascape of driftwood and sand and a few small geophagus tapajos. Will use a fluval 406, not a sump or wetdry. So if i choose the reef ready version to get the low iron glass i would have to go about caping the holes that were drilled and either removing the overflow or using it to hide heaters etc.

Question is it worth all the hassle $100 and extra work on tank to get low iron tank. I wont have any plants and wont be taking any pictures. Thanks.

Well I love all 10 of my starphire tanks! U can really see the difference, only thing I dont like is you have to treat it better then normal tanks, little sand parts will scratch it easy and removing water marks is not the easiest but still well worth it.

If you dont already have the fluval I would just setup a sump, you will be much happier with it, if not you could try, not sure if this will work.

Plumb the intake to the canister into the bulk head and place the return on the side of the tank so you still get surface skimming, should work. might need a valve. Install a hydor inline on the the return and boom :) My understand is not great with sumps takes me months to get them working right but the bulkhead should not drain more water then the fluval is returning so you cant flood the canister/floor.
