Hi,

I was looking to get this size tank for a garage conversion:

96" x 27" x 36" (h).

The reason we want a taller tank is that the idea is to have the tank lower down towards the floor. Similar to the below photo, but the tank not as tall and the space underneath a little bit great to hopefully accommodate a sump.

I love tall tanks but don't want it to dominate the room, incorporating it into the room this way seems a perfect fit for us.

So, I haven't had a sump before, and would like a bit of guidance from the pros. The sump would need to be low, and narrow (width of tank, but also including stand - a mix of brick, wood and metal) but can be the full 8ft length. What would work in terms of providing adequate filtration (assume, big messy fish) and providing enough in case of a power failure etc (something, being a sump newb, I'm concerned about).

Was looking at this calculator: http://reefcentral.com/calc/sump.php

But not sure what power pump to go for? Assuming that 2" outlet depth is good too.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this at all? Nothing is done, all in the planning stage, so everything is up for debate! There would be limited space at the side of the tank (same level) too if needed.

Thanks!

I'd get a tall sump and put it at one end. In the case of that tank, it looks like the sump/filter is above it. I would go with a sump beside it myself. I would build a cabinet to put it in.
