I've been seeing a lot of male dovii's lately and they all look amazing. Great shape, vibrant colors and markings etc. I know some flowerhorns are "low quality". So I was wondering can dovii's fall under "low quality" as well? Any pics of any that some might call "low quality"?

I feel that "low quality" depends on who's doing the grading. In the world of flowerhorns, each sub-species (so to speak) has certain qualities or traits which is how I believe folks are grading them as "low or high quality". I would say that if you like the way the fish looks and it's healthy, you're good to go. Just my thoughts..

It also depends on your reason for wanting the fish. If you are high on super color, specific behavior, etc; then any specimen which doesn't display those qualities would be low quality for you.

If you simply want a dovii specimen which exemplifies what a dovii should be, the biggest risk for you would probably be in buying an F36786298698263984632 specimen. :)

Anything else would be all good.

A low quality Dovii??? First thing that comes to my mind is deformity

No. Not the same way

FHs come in many different looks. Some more of this or less of that to one's eyes.. FHs are judged by how well it is put together as one fish and whatever outstanding trait they carry, especially the big head. They come in many shapes and colors so they are judged by details of everything together then overall as a FH.

The pure breed species comes standard. Their look is already a signature. High/low quality shall be judged through colors, physical perfection, and seldom an issue, health. Then the Dovii will be dovii. U can increase/bring out quality in any cichlid with steady proper care.

its all in care of the fish. dovii have very strong genetics and dont tend to carry deformites even far down the genetic line. if you raise a dovii from a small size with proper care from tank size, food, clean water, low sress etc then you will more than likely grow up a beast specimen. the ones that aren't high quality are usually from how the fish is taken care of.
