I have a stack of 125s on a sump currently seeing 1k GPH. I need to increase that but I cannot drill the tank. I'm using an eshopps overflow with two U tubes and 2" pvc. Has anyone hooked up one overflow box with another? There's only about a 3" drop from the bottom of the overflow to the first elbow in the pvc.

Two over flow siphon can be difficult to balance and if one just slows a bit you can over flow the tank.
My first thought is, Why is 1000gph not enough?

I'd do a dump filter on top of the bottom 125g - basically a pump in the tank sending water to a rubbermaid bin on top of the tank (filled with bio balls)...and water returns to the tank via holes in the bottom of the bin (via gravity).

There's not enough room above the tanks for that. The top houses 6 RBP that will reach 8"+ and eat lots of raw foods. The bottom is heavily stocked with geos and other community fish. Is 1k really enough for 290g?

People get hung up on X times turn over, IMO if the turn over rate is enough to process the waste and ammonia that is being produced it should be good.
If water parameters are clean no ammonia, nitrite then your turn over is sufficient.

More than that may give you a little wiggle room to allow for additional stock or the event that some other aspect of the filtration was to falter.
Other than that it would be just extra water movement and if someone desires that they can just add some power heads.
Are you parameters good and holding between water changes?

The system changes 24gpd on its own. I don't do weekly water changes
Right I remember reading that now.
So if your filtration and water change system is holding you parameters then (to me anyway) adding additional turnover isn’t necessary.
I will admit though I like tinkering with pumps and plumbing myself.
I wouldn’t recommend adding more siphon style overflows my self. If anything I would recommend a larger single overflow instead of two.

Do you have any contingency plan for if your overflow stops working properly? Will the return pump overflow the tanks In the event of a siphon break?
