I currently have a 10 gallon running. i sort of made it out of excess materials from other tanks. i had "T-rex jungle bed" for my tree frogs that was unused. Its very fine dirt with some wood chips inside. I covered it with pea gravel and put in a really nice 7-8" long anibus(sp?) a couple java fern, and pushed some java moss down in the gravel hoping for a carpet with how easy the stuff is to grow. I put some liquid fertilizer in, and it has 20watts of eco light for aquarium plants overhead. i have another 15 watt bulb i could put in but didnt from fear of over doing it and burning out the plants, would 3.5 wpg be ok? I also have a 20 gallon over the top bio wheel running which keeps it crystal clear, and a 10gal heater. I just want a small tank that has very beautiful healthy plants. i was thinking about adding some more plants. ive seen this sort of thing online plenty of times with a similar setup and didnt want to go spend $150 on all new equiptment, and it just kind of happened out of bordom the other day when i started to look through all my excess animal stuff, and a lightbulb went off in my head. Any comments? im anxious to see if the low tech thing works out, Am i missing anything?
thank you for reading

I'm thinking of starting a 10g planted tank myself. I know people do it the low-tech way. As long as the plants grow, shouldn' matter how you accomplish it. People may say, "Oh, you can't do this" or "you can't do that." As long as it works, who cares? And if you can recycle equipment you already have, even better!

i had a 10 gallon aquarium with only two 15 watt coralife bulbs and a tetra whisper filter that grew different sword plants, java moss, java ferns, and sag plants

alright thanks guys its appreciated, i get stressed in the waiting proccess. I'm gonna make a homemade co2 canister tomorrow. only costin me like $3. better than payin $100 for the same thing and havin to keep buyin the new co2

O.o...low tech huh..that is allot higher tech then i used for my 10 gallon guppy tank.
Plants were, java moss, penny wort, lots of unknown stem plants, dwarf lilly and a few anubia. The funny part was it only had a full spectrum reading lamp over and the plants grew like weeds...under about 2wpg..maybe less. ^_^ your plants are going to love you!
i always had to trim things back..this was a month of growth.
20 gallon whisper HOB filter...just normal gravel (this was my guppy breeding tank...got upgraded to a 20gallon)

Yeah i try to put less yeast and sugar for the smaller tanks. just try to measure it best i can. NICE TANK! looks great especially for what is being put into it, which isnt much lol.
