My tank is a 180 with a 60 gallon sump. For the past week or so I have lost an orino and my fish are developing all sorts of problems. My orino developed ick and died and now my second bass has ick as well. 3 out of 5 of my datnoids have started to develop cloud eye. I thought that for some reason my tank went into a cycle. (I never added anything new so didn't think of where the ick came from). I thought my test kit was old since it showed perfect water quality at 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites. I got so desperate i went out and bought another test kit and it also shows 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite. My fish just seem to be getting worse. I then realized that maybe have 550 watts of ebo jager heaters aren't enough. I have a 250W and a 350W in the tank. I checked my thermometer and it showed my tank was at 75. I had the heaters set at 80. So I'm wondering if the cause of all my problems are poor heating because I assume that overnight since it gets so cold the temps might be dropping to the point where its causing my fishes problems. This is the first winter i've had my tank in the garage and its always been perfectly fine before

Threw in another 250 watt heater. Hopefully its enough. Would you guys say low temps are the cause of ick and cloudy eye?

75'F is not a bad temp for Cichla, they have been introduced and live in Florida where temps get much lower(high 60sF).
Do you use feeder fish? They are the biggest contributors of disease, or do you vacuum the substrate regularly.
Add a lb of salt gradually, I believe the dats will thank you for it, and since ich is present, add another heater, if you thoroughly vacuum the substrate it will help you get rid of dormant ich cysts that rest there.

Okay thanks guys. Temps are at a constant 83 now. I believe the tank probably fell into the 60s since the past few nights have been extremely cold. I never give feeders and have not added anything new for months. These fishes I've had for almost 2 1/2 years so I'm not sure where this all came from

If you are running a sump with a wet/dry it can act like a very good chiller in that environment. Not sure that you are, but yes, the temps could go down quite a bit.

Yeah thats what I was doing with the sump uncovered. I had 2 heaters in my main tank and none in the sump. I now have one in the sump and 2 in the tank and its been a lot more constant. Just gotta figure out how to cure the ick and cloud eye now..

What are your Nitrates? Do you do regular water changes?
High Nitrates will cause fishes to get diseases. Shake the heck out of the Nitrate test solution bottles before using.

Didn't check my nitrates. Could be the issue as well since I haven't had much time and have been doing WCs every 2-3 weeks instead of weekly. Gonna start getting back to weekly again
