Still dreaming of a Blue Catfish for my 30,000 gallon pond, if any are ever available. But what's their lower temperature limit? And the flathead catfish, anybody know the lower temp limit on them? Can they winter over? Our pond barely freezes, but it does. Not where the water comes in and leaves, though.

depends where you catch them. if you get them up north then they will be able to freeze, but if they are from the south then you might have trouble

Adding a pond aerator or de icer could be all you need to get them through the winter. Im in Ohio and both these species thrive basically everywhere. How deep is your pond? I left some goldfish out this winter in a pond only 12" deep that froze over and to my own surprise they emerged this spring. With a pond your size you should b more than fine with both species.

Good news, thanks everybody!

Pond ranges from about 4' down to around 9' deep. I'll give the beast a nice cave at the deepest area, which is also where the new water feeds in.

As for the flathead, it would have to be pretty small to make shipping affordable, right? I'd love to have one for sure, and you might be my only hope! So YES. Let me know what you can do! I like the flathead's face better, anyway. Blues mostly just look like giant channel cats.

Catfish can be really fun pets in a pond, a friend of mine has a lake, and the cats he has, come up to the dock like starving dogs when he goes out to feed them. Its a really cool sight to behold.

I know, they are total wet pets. I can't wait for the day I finally have one!

I got a brown bullhead for my pond yesterday. Not going to see it for a while though because it's tiny :)
