I've had lowes silicate sand in my tank, 50 lbs of it. Every time I do a pwc the water goes cloudy. The sand then once it is clear the dust will stick to the glass. Looks great, fish like it but wish I would have went with an aquarium sand.

How well did you rinse the sand before adding it to the tank ?

What is silicate sand is it pool filter sand I am confused?

I think it's breaking down in the tank. Silicate sand is sandblaster sand.

I used silica sand {pool filter sand} in a fluidized bed filter and on the tank bottom it does not break down from just sitting or rinsing or even in the fbf. It could be a very small grain size that takes a while to settle.

throw every filter you've got in there with polishing pads on them and keep stirring the sand. you'll get rid of it eventually. I had to do it with a 20 and it took about 2 weeks using a magnum 350 and an aquaclear 30 power head.

Been about 2 months filtering a 90 g with a aquatop cf500 with custom pads.
