i'm trying some in a oscar tank to try and soak up more nitrates i've heard they live well in water 3/4 sumerged is this right and could this add any toxics to the water cannot find any thing on the net figured you guys might know something
 
Keep in mind that even though they consume nitrates, most plants only do really well in relatively low nitrates. Depending on the temperature of your tank, hornwort and anacharis are 2 very hardy plants with quick metabolism that use up nitrates rapidly. I'm not sure if the oscar would try to eat them, though.
