I was looking around for new fish when I came across this http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/stores_productsinfo.asp?store=54&prod=2481. However, after reading here it appears that lugubris is not an individual pike but a family of pikes.

I have been trying to ID the one in the link but it is a far from flattering picture of a pike and I have never even looked at pikes until the last week or so.

Can someone help me to identify the pike in the link with your experience of the type as well please?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

It seems to be sp. Venezuela in the Lugubris group of pike after a bit more digging.

Lugubris is both a family of pikes and an individual species. Just like saxatilis is both a family and an individual species.

From what I have found that whole family hits 12"+, which is far beyond what I am after.

I can get my hands on 3" proteus' (male or female) or a menesezi @ 5" which I believe is almost fully grown. Decision time again.

Thanks for the help.

I have 2 proteus .. and they are a blast. for such a small fish alot of personality. my female is the devil though.
