I was at my lfs a lil while ago and i saw a juvenile peacock bass or what looked like one so i asked how much it was, and he said which fish? I said the peacock bass. He said it was called a lukinini or something like that. I was wondering if anyone knows what this is because i am new at peacock bass, is it a species? No clue, anyway it was worth 25 bux, any information would be helpful. Thanks

Tucanarie????is that what he said??

Its just another native name for CIchla.

it's a cichla monoculous that is raised in Hawaii. That's the description I got. I have one as well.

"lukanani" correct spelling....is a local general reference for peacock bass in hawaii,Guyana,Sweden, and a few other countries.....it does NOT distinguish species rather is a broad term used just as we use "peacock bass" as a general identifier. There are many other names also depending on the country..ie Venezuela/peru=pavon...brazil=tucunare...also temensis with bars are refered to as "acu" and speckled patterened temensis as "paca". orinocensis=borboleto, mariposa, butterfly. and so on ect...blah blah...there are names for general reference and local names for species depending on the country at hand....so back to the question...the pet store that recieved the peacock bass basically got them from a country that refers to them on their list as lukanani, could be ocellaris..possibly monoculus as both are found and farmed in the areas that refer to peacocks as lukanani . ;)
